Hurriyat (G) calls for funeral prayers in absentia
The two factions of Hurriyat Conference Wednesday criticized the authorities for not handing over the bodies of three slain militants who were killed in a gunfight with government forces at JKEDI Pampore to the locals for last rites.
Hurriyat (G) held an Executive Body (Majlis-i-Shoura) meeting which was presided over by the senior Hurriyat (G) leader and the Secretary General of the forum Shabir Ahmad Shah at his Sanat Nagar office and was attended by the heads or the representatives of most of the constituents of the forum.
The Hurriyat (G) advisory council criticized the administration and police for disallowing the proper and suitable burial of the militants in Pampore gunfight and said police did not allow people to perform the last rites of three slain youth.
Calling for funeral prayers in absentia for the three militants on February 25, after Zuhr prayers (Afternoon prayers) at Pampore, Hurriyat Conference (G) said it is our religious obligation to offer funeral prayers to any Muslim who dies or achieves martyrdom and restricting this process is the direct interference into the religious affairs and this government action will in no way be accepted and tolerated.
“Government has to be cautious in future and should not repeat these silly acts. The Majlis-i-Shoura appealed the people to participate in the proposed funeral prayers in absentia at Pampore and organize special prayers for the martyrs,” Hurriyat (G) spokesperson said.
Condemning the authorities for not handing over the bodies of three slain militants who were killed in a gunfight with government forces at Pampore to the locals for last rites, Hurriyat (M) said it was against all norms of humanity and moral values.
Paying tributes to the slain militants, Hurriyat (M) said the people of Kashmir have been, for the past several decades, giving enormous sacrifices for the cause of freedom and it was the need of the hour that the leadership of India shun its present policy in Kashmir and take meaningful steps for the resolution of Kashmir issue.
The Hurriyat (M) has termed the use of ‘excessive’ force by the government forces and police on unarmed protesters in Pampore, imposition of curfew in the area and arrest of scores of youth in Tral as completely ‘undemocratic and dictatorial.’
